Johnny Oxenham

Johnny Oxenham, Malgana Elder has called Carnarvon home since he moved from Shark Bay in 1970. Throughout his life, Johnny has contributed across a range of industries such as Fishing, Horticulture and the Department of Communities. 

Johnny was an instrumental member in the Malgana Native Title Determination and running on-country programs for Aboriginal youth in the Gascoyne.  
Johnny has worked in a range of advisory roles including Malgana Aboriginal Corporation, Gascoyne Development Commission and through his own corporation, Carnarvon Community Men’s Group Aboriginal Corporation.  
When asked on his hopes for the Carnarvon Common Ground and why he wanted to become a Director, Johnny wants to provide ‘good, sound governance to the Carnarvon Common Ground’

Our Artists

Respected member of Carnarvon Common Ground, Devinia Wainwright collaborated and mentored Theonie McKenna to create the artwork for the Project. This piece tells the story of our community walking together toward a shared future. It represents the Common Ground as a place where services and community unite to provide support, guidance, connection, and healing for our youth and families.

The river meeting the sea – a landmark of Carnarvon -symbolises peace, grounding, and our deep connection to spirit and ancestors who walk with us every day. Our lands and ocean sustain us with traditional foods like mullet, kangaroo, and turtle, keeping us strong and healthy while preserving our culture for generations to come.
