Burchell Drage

Burchell Drage is a Pinikura man who has called the Gascoyne home for over 30 years. Burchell’s professional background is in Mental Health and Alcohol and other Drug Counselling. 

He has worked as Mental Health Worker for the Carnarvon Medical Services Aboriginal Corporation (CMSAC) providing him with a deep understanding on co-occurring mental health issues most prevalent in the community. Having provided his industry knowledge as part of the Mental Health Advisory Group, Burchell has proven his unwavering commitment to improving social outcomes for the Aboriginal community. 

Burchell is well respected in the community, and despite being retired, still has community turn to him for mental health advice. 
Burchell also holds expertise of governance requirements of ACCOs from his tenure as Director of CMSAC, which will assist him in making informed decisions for the Carnarvon Common Ground.

Our Artists

Respected member of Carnarvon Common Ground, Devinia Wainwright collaborated and mentored Theonie McKenna to create the artwork for the Project. This piece tells the story of our community walking together toward a shared future. It represents the Common Ground as a place where services and community unite to provide support, guidance, connection, and healing for our youth and families.

The river meeting the sea – a landmark of Carnarvon -symbolises peace, grounding, and our deep connection to spirit and ancestors who walk with us every day. Our lands and ocean sustain us with traditional foods like mullet, kangaroo, and turtle, keeping us strong and healthy while preserving our culture for generations to come.
